My name is Alayna Mazurek
I am a research and program associate at 100 Days in Appalachia, helping advance the organization’s major activities in research and policy work, associated program, project and event management and coordination, and supporting integrated strategic communications across diverse research, reporting, programming, and special projects.
In May 2022, I graduated with my Master of Science in Journalism (MSJ) degree from West Virginia University with minors in marketing and strategic social media. I have worked as a journalist, digital content strategist and researcher with a demonstrated record of experience in news reporting, photography, videography, digital video operations, AP Style, data analytics, strategy planning, creative writing, content creation, and website development. I am from Appalachia and am passionate about sharing the stories of the region while fostering meaningful collaborations with its diverse and vibrant community.
While at WVU, I was news editor for WVU’s independent student newspaper The Daily Athenaeum, summer reporter for the Charleston Gazette-Mail, digital content strategist for the WVU Davis College, graduate assistant for WVU Research and WVU Magazine, and research assistant for the WVU Department of Communications.
